Why nine to five?

Why nine to five?

What can you find on my website? Its main purpose is to inspire people to learn more about financial independence. This website talks about FIRE (financial independence, retire early) from the Australian point of view which makes it bit special.

We don’t have here many bloggers writing about financial freedom like in the USA. This topic is not too popular here, but I believe it should be and I will do my best to make it popular. Being financially independent has no downside. You still can keep your job and do what you were doing (within FIRE limits) but you don’t have to. That’s what I find so empowering.

You might be interested in changing your current life towards gaining more control over your time. I would like to discuss here topics like:

*finance

*savings

*investments

*work

*family

*sport

*travel

*general lifestyle design

*plus anything which might interest me at the time

I will be using mostly my own experience but I got clearly inspired by reading many blogs and books popular in financial independence community. Some of these resources are here.

I am obsessed (yes my wife and friends definitely noticed..) most of the last decade with the FIRE movement (financial independence – retire early), which seems to be well on its way in USA but here in Australia, we are just at the beginning. There are even not many blogs about financial independence here.

I write about the journey to FIRE but main thing is that somehow I got to the point of financial independence and at 43 I have bitten the bullet and quit well paying job, to get back my time to be able to help my wife with our twins. We started late, were on average salaries, made many mistakes and still got there in my case after about 15 years of salaried jobs. We might go back to work or become entrepreneurs but money will not be main driver for this.

Main appeal of financial independence according to FIRE movement is that it is easily replicable by most of people on average and even less than average salaries. Spend less, save and invest the difference and funds for your independence will snowball in incredibly short time especially compared to standard working lives of 40+ years.

And don’t forget that we all live only once. That decade spent in the bad job, while you wasted money on the third kitchen reno, business class tickets and European luxury cars, so THAT decade is gone and you will never get that years back.

My blog might be able to inspire you to learn more about FIRE community, get out of the rat race and do WHATEVER you are interested in or just do nothing for a while and look after your family (like me).
